* Closing Bell: Equities end off highs; realty, capital good surge

After trading within a narrow range during the final hour, markets closed on a positive note today. Select stocks from the energy, auto, FMCG and engineering sectors faced the brunt of profit booking at higher levels, while buying activity was witnessed across most sectors. As regards global markets, the Asian indices closed mixed, while the European indices are trading higher currently.

The BSE Sensex closed 135 points higher, while the NSE Nifty closed higher by 48 points. The BSE Midcap index and the Smallcap index both closed higher by 1%. The rupee was trading at 43.81 to the dollar.
