
Though the broader markets pared considerable loses in the final hour of trade, they ended in the negative as the day was marked by sustained negative sentiments. Amidst selling pressure, select stocks from the energy, engineering and metals sectors garnered investor's interest. As regards global markets, the Asian indices closed in the red except Shanghai Composite (up 1%). The European indices are also trading lower currently.
The BSE Sensex closed almost 136 points lower, while the NSE Nifty closed lower by 31 points. The BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices also closed in the red, each down marginally. The rupee was trading at 43.8 to the dollar.
