The market remained firm in afternoon trade buoyed by significant gains in financial, realty and auto stocks. Midcaps and smallcaps also participated in the rally.
At 1:20 pm, Bombay Stock Exchange's Sensex rose 1.83 per cent or 277 points to 15,444.73, after touching a high of 15,488.06 and low of 15,367.97 so far.
National Stock Exchange's Nifty was at 4599.75, up 70 points or 1.55 per cent higher. The index touched a high of 4616 and low of 4529.35 in trade so far.
