Closing Strong recovery...

Markets witnessed a volatile final hour of trading, as alternate bouts of buying and selling led the indices to hover around yesterday's closing levels. While buying activity was witnessed in stocks from the energy and IT space, select stocks from the metals and banking sectors failed to garner the investors' interest. As regards global markets, while the Asian indices closed in the red, the European indices are currently trading in the green.

The BSE Sensex closed 59 points lower, while the NSE Nifty closed lower by 15 points. The BSE Midcap and the Smallcap indices also closed in the red, down by 0.8% and 0.3% respectively. The rupee was trading at 44.80 to the dollar.
