Equities ended lower on Thursday on the settlement day for September expiry series. Realty and IT stocks were the major losers.
Bombay Stock Exchange’s Sensex closed at 13,540.94, down 151.58 points or 1.11 per cent. The index touched a high of 13,716.88 and low of 13,430.68.
National Stock Exchange’s Nifty closed at 4,107.55, down 53.70 points or 1.29 per cent. The 50-share index touched an intra-day high of 4172.60 and low of 4077.50.
BSE Midcap Index closed at 5087.79, down 0.76 per cent and BSE Smallcap Index ended 0.89 per cent lower at 6,047.49.
Biggest Sensex gainers were HDFC Bank (1.1%), Jaiprakash Associates (0.93%), NTPC (0.45%), Larsen & Toubro (0.23%) and ONGC (0.19%).
Losers comprised Wipro (-5.61%), Ranbaxy Laboratories (-4.44%), Hindalco Industries (-4.32%), Grasim Industries (-3.37%) and Tata Consultancy Services (-3.29%).
Market breadth remained negative. On BSE, 1679 declines outnumbered 905 advances.
