Markets closed deep in the red as the day was marked by sustained negative sentiment.

The broader markets closed deep in the red as the day was marked by sustained negative sentiment. After a dispirited start, markets wriggled around in a range bound manner. The Sensex closed lower by around 300 points, while the Nifty ended lower by around 90 points. Stocks from the mid-cap and small-cap indices also ended in the negative territory. Amidst panic across the board, heavyweights from the banking, realty, and metals sectors bore the brunt of selling activity. However, select auto, energy and media stocks garnered investors’ interest at lower levels. As regards global markets, while the Asian indices closed in the red, the European indices are witnessing a mixed trend currently.
