Railway revenue earnings up by 13% during April - January 2009

The total approximate earnings of Indian Railways on originating basis during 1st April – 31st January, 2009 were Rs. 64876 cr compared to Rs. 57327 cr during the same period last year, registering an increase of 13.17%.
The total goods earnings have gone up from Rs. 38734 cr during 1st April-31st January, 2008 to Rs. 44016 cr during 1st April-31st January 2009, registering an increase of 14%.
The total passenger revenue earnings during first ten months of the financial year 2008-09 were Rs. 18043 cr compared to Rs. 16135 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 12%.
The revenue earnings from other coaching amounted to Rs. 1639 cr during April-January 2009 compared to Rs. 1539 cr during the same period last year, an increase of 6.5%.
The total sundry earnings have gone up from Rs. 919 cr during April-January 2008 to Rs. 1178 cr during April-January 2009, showing an increase of 28%.
The total approximate number of passengers booked during April-January 2009 was 5918 mn compared to 5560 mn during the same period last year, showing an increase of 6.44%.
In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the number of passengers booked during April-January 2009 was 3164 mn and 2754 mn compared to 3074 mn and 2486 mn during the same period last year, an increase of 3% and 11% respectively.
