US Mkts end higher led by financials; Dow up 50.5 pts while Asian Mkts trading weak; Nikkei dips 2%

US markets closed slightly higher led by financial companies as Wall Street welcomed news that house-senate negotiators had reached agreement on a $ 789 billion economic stimulus package that would mix tax cuts and new government spending to rescue the faltering economy.

In the only significant economic report, US trade deficit fell to its lowest level in six years at $ 39.9 billion.

At closing bell, Dow Jones ended up 0.6%, Nasdaq ends up 0.3% while S&P 500 ended up 0.8%.
