Cipla has lost out on the Indian government order for Tamiflu. The entire order has been bagged by Hetero. Cipla, Ranbaxy, and the local unit of Switzerland-based Roche Holding AG had submitted bids for Tamiflu.
Cipla was also one of the companies which had bid for stockpiling the Indian government. But had it won the contract then this could have possibly been a one time opportunity for Cipla which has not happened. However, Cipla can continue and go ahead and bid in the international markets. But we have not heard anything on that front from international markets as well. This order is valued at about Rs 35-36 crore, so that could have been important but it has not happened. Cipla can possibly pursue in international market. Same is the case with Ranbaxy also. These two are the listed companies. The order is own by Hetero which is not a listed company, so no impact on the market as such.
