* Closing Bell: Short covering, value buying aid market recovery

Equity benchmarks reversed all losses towards the fag end of the session as investors picked up bargains in battered index heavyweights and triggered hectic short covering. Midcaps and smallcaps, however, ended lower.

Bombay Stock Exchange's Sensex ended 0.14 per cent or 19.4 points higher at 13,550.67. The index touched a high of 13,556.03 and low of 13,051.73 during the day.

National Stock Exchange's Nifty climbed 0.28 per cent or 11.6 points to 4084.55. The index touched a high of 4090.10 from a low 3919.35 intra-day.

BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices were down 1.15 per cent and 0.97 per cent respectively.
