Stocks lose ground; Sensex down 300 point

Stocks gave up gains in afternoon trade weighed down by significant losses in realty and power stocks. All sectoral indices were trading i
n the negative territory.

Worries about the impact and extent of the global economic slowdown continued to weigh on sentiment.

Bombay Stock Exchange's Sensex lost 2.65 per cent or 284 points to 10,296.79. National Stock Exchange's Nifty fell 2.36 per cent or 77.05 points at 3192.25.

Midcaps and smallcaps were relatively less affected. BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices were down 0.94 per cent and 0.66 per cent respectively.
